Lexington Children’s Place receives School Community Grant
Lexington Education Foundation announced that Lexington Children’s Place, the Lexington Public Schools’ districtwide preschool, will now join Lexington’s nine K-12 schools as a recipient of an annual LEF School Community Grant.

Connections: The Key to Efficient and Enjoyable Math Education
In April of 2017, Molly Rawding, a math specialist at Fiske Elementary School for the past five years, was awarded a fellowship grant from LEF. The fellowship enable her to attend the National Council of Supervisors of Mathematics(NCSM) conference, one of the top mathematics education leadership organizatons in the country.

LEF thanks town, community for successful Unplug! event
At the third annual “LEF Unplug! A Re-energizing Family Afternoon” of technology-free activities held on Feb. 9 at the Lexington Community Center, over 300 children and adults spent the afternoon happily painting, singing, playing violin, practicing yoga, making origami and listening to stories.

Families, educators, volunteers and students nearly packed the Lexington High School auditorium Monday night, Nov. 5, to cheer on their favorite teams in the Lexington Education Association’s 23rd annual Trivia Bee.

Lexington residents run Kids Triathlon
On the morning of July 15, thousands of young kids and their parents descended on the MIT campus for the 7th annual New England Kids Triathlon. This year the Kids Triathlon event organiser Shelda Moll, event MC Mr. Almon Gunter and LEF co-president Kim McCormick attended the party to thank the kids and parents for the active involvement in the event.

Lexington Education Foundation will host their Celebration for Education Weekend June 15-16, where residents can connect with friends, dance and play. Community support helps fund grants that “inspire” teaching and learning for Lexington Public School faculty and students.

The evening was the climax of a new curriculum unit for the entire sophomore class, in which every student read Ms. Gyasi’s novel, “Homegoing” this year as the result of an LEF grant, and was made possible through a collaboration with Lexington Community Education (LCE).

Lexington Education Foundation’s 22nd TRIVIA BEE was held on Nov. 9 at the Lexington High School, where 42 teams participated in the competition in the auditorium. The energy level this year was unprecedented.

Kid Triathletes Earn Dollars to Benefit Lexington's Schools

Sevent-four Lexington youth participated in the Kids Triathlon at MIT on Sunday, July 16. Lexington had the second largest team. After the race, the organizers held a post race party at the Bridge School playground, where those triathletes achieving three and four triathlons in a row were recognized and Lexington Educational Foundation (LEF) received a donation of $740.

The Newcomer Project: Mentoring and Peer Leadership at Fiske Elementary School

Newcomers enter our schools with rich culturaland linguistic experiences from their home countries, but they also bring anxiety and culture shock. As ELL teachers, we are responsible for these vulnerable students, but we also need the help of classroom teachers and other staff. At Lexington’s Fiske Elementary School, we are employing staff as mentors and students as peer leaders to help our newcomers transition into our school culture.

On June 10, over 500 adults joined LEF for their signature annual fundraising event. The night included international hors d’oeuvres and signature cocktails prepared by Neillio’s, a performance by Lexington Chamber Ensemble and LHS Jazz Ensemble and raffle baskets created by Lexington school families.
