LEF SCHOOL COMMUNITY GRANTS

 

School Community Grants 2007-2008

Since the program’s inception in 2003, School Community Grants have awarded a total of $154,000 to the Lexington Public Schools. Here’s how each school used SCG in 2007-2008:

Central Office Professional Learning Communities…Bringing It All Together Expands and supports Professional Learning Communities through a full-day conference for all faculty and a leadership symposium for administrators with Dr. Rick DuFour; provides materials and training in supervision and evaluation for administrators, by Bill Ribas.
LHS Building Community Through the LHS Mission Statement Continues the installation of panels at LHS to reflect themes of their mission statement.
Professional Improvement for Newer Teachers Provides professional development through texts for second- and third-year teachers containing articles about successful instructional practices.
Standards-Based Curriculum Development Funds teachers to continue rewriting curriculum guides to conform to New England Association of Schools and Colleges standards.
Freshman Advisory Program Planning Funds a team of teachers to draft a plan for the establishment of a freshman advisory program.
Clarke The Professional Learning Community at Work Institute Funds approximately eight teachers to attend the DuFour Professional Learning Communities at Work Institute and to work with staff and administration afterwards.
Diamond Common Formative Assessments Funds a consultant for a one-day training session on creating assessments that match state and local objectives, selecting curriculum, and working collaboratively.
Bowman Open Circle Professional Development Funds training for two new teachers in Open Circle.
Writing Curriculum Materials for Lucy Calkins' Teachers College Reading and Writing Project Method Provides Units of Study materials to special educators and a new classroom teacher.
A Focus on Comprehension Provides books to help teachers identify best practices in reading comprehension.
Bridge Word Study for Phonics, Vocabulary, and Spelling Instruction Provides materials for a common approach to word study across all grade levels; provides stipends to teachers working off-school hours to develop hands-on materials.
Estabrook Improving Writing Skills Provides two additional Units of Study kits for grades K-2, and texts, CD ROM, and materials to support literacy instruction.
Open Circle Training Funds training for one new teacher in Open Circle.
Fiske Technology Training of Staff for Curriculum and Technology Pays one staff member for off-school hours to train staff in technology and its use in the curriculum.
One-Year Subscription to United Streaming Provides access to digital video based learning materials.
Harrington Harrington School Mural Project Supplements a LEF Program Grant to fund materials, an artist in residence, and teacher time for a school-wide mural project.
Hastings Community Building Activities: Professional Workshop with Dr. Rob Evans Funds a consultant to work with staff on school culture and change.
Dance Residency Funds an artist in residence in a dance project involving all of the specialists and creating a common learning experience for all students.
