awarded to all Lexington public schools, December 19, 2009

Lexington - The Lexington Education Foundation has awarded its
2009-2010 School Community Grants to all nine Lexington Public
Schools.
Each school generates a grant request through a collaborative
process with faculty, school councils, PTAs, or other relevant
parties.
School community grants are intended to provide a funding source
for smaller-scale proposals that benefit and enable creative educational
initiatives within each school.
Each Lexington elementary school was awarded $1,500 to support
its specific community need.
The grants will help purchase a non-fiction book library relating
to science and social studies, and professional development resources
at Bowman; purchase the site license for Teacherweb Web site and
provide professional development books on teaching literacy at
Estabrook; purchase materials to support literacy program, "Words
Their Way," at Bridge; provide stipends for professional
development and purchase resources for the Physical Education
program at Fiske; support anti-bullying production and resources
at Harrington; and provide resources and workshop stipends on
the inclusion of children on the autism spectrum at Hastings.
Clarke and Diamond Middle Schools were awarded $3,000 each to
purchase equipment to support the Physical Education and Wellness
program at Clarke and create a community garden at Diamond.
Lexington High School was awarded $4,500 to support summer 2010
teacher and staff workshops relating to re-engaging senior students
in the second semester and investigating sources of unhealthy
student stress and stress reduction.
