Lexington — The Lexington Education Foundation (LEF) will hold its largest annual fundraiser, A Celebration of Education, on Saturday, March 27, 6:30 p.m. to midnight, at the Westin Waltham-Boston in Waltham.

Three event highlights

1. The LEF is an independent charitable organization committed to enhancing educational excellence for the children of all nine of Lexington’s public schools. Since its inception in 1989, LEF has awarded more than $2.9 million to Lexington educators through a competitive grants program that funds things like concussion screening for LHS athletes, science enrichment for the fifth-grade, and interactive boards and projectors at Diamond Middle School.

2. The gala features an extensive silent auction, plus a live auction led by radio personality Billy Costa. Live auction items include: the “Ultimate Fenway Park Experience” for six, including tickets to a game, a private tour of the stadium, half an hour in the batting cage, and a baseball signed by Josh Beckett; “An Evening with the Stars,” including dinner at Henrietta’s Table, a private tour of the Harvard College Observatory and a limo ride to and from Harvard Square; a blackjack party with Deb Lapides, a member of the MIT blackjack team featured in the movie “21”; and more.

3. Lexington resident Michael Tzannes and Celtics co-owner Wyc Grousbeck of the band French Lick will rock out on keyboards and drums. Celebrate education by putting on your dancing shoes.

Why you should attend
“The event is not only a wonderful night, it’s also LEF’s biggest fundraiser of the year and a chance to support the teachers who are inspiring our children. The monies we raise are used for funding all our grants. If you are new to town, this is a great opportunity to attend one of Lexington’s premiere community events.” — Jean Birnberg, event general manager
